πŸŽ™οΈ Deep Dive Drive – Episode 10: Listen to Yourself

β€’ Kris Hatton β€’ Season 1 β€’ Episode 18

In this episode of Deep Dive Drive, recorded after a long and frustrating day, I finally land on the real topic at the very end β€” listening to yourself.

Yesterday was one of those days where everything seemed to stack up.

Some things were in my control.

Some things weren’t.

From trying to motivate players in a college match where we were 5–0 down at half-time (but showed resilience by not conceding in the second half), to another game finishing 3–2 with a bare eleven, availability issues, staff turning up late to sessions, last-minute cover, switching environments, and then having an evening first-team session cancelled due to a lack of players β€” it was constant problem-solving from start to finish.

In this episode, I reflect on:

  • The mental load of leading teams, staff, and players
  • How quickly frustration can build when standards aren’t met
  • The challenge of resetting your mindset between environments
  • Knowing when to stop, switch off, and recharge
  • Why listening to your body and your head is a leadership skill, not a weakness

By the end of the day, the only right decision was to step away, shut off from work, and reset β€” not to avoid responsibility, but to protect clarity, energy, and standards for the days ahead.

This episode is a real insight into the realities of being a company owner, a coach, and a manager β€” and a reminder that sometimes the most productive thing you can do is listen to yourself.

Honest reflections. Real pressure. One drive at a time.
