🎙️ Deep Dive Drive – Episode 45: When Coaching Starts to Feel Heavy
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode of Deep Dive Drive, recorded on my morning commute, I talk about a feeling that many coaches experience but don’t always admit:
When coaching starts to feel heavy.
Coaching is something most of us begin because we love the game, we love helping people, and we love the environment that sport creates. But over time, pressures, expectations, responsibilities, and constant problem-solving can start to build up.
And sometimes, the joy gets replaced with weight.
In this episode, I reflect on:
- Why coaching can start to feel mentally and emotionally heavy
- The pressure of leading players, teams, and environments
- The impact of expectations — both from others and from yourself
- Recognising when fatigue starts to creep in
- The importance of stepping back, reflecting, and reconnecting with your purpose
This episode isn’t about negativity.
It’s about honesty.
Because every coach will face moments where the role feels bigger than the enjoyment. The key is recognising those moments, understanding why they happen, and finding ways to reset.
Sometimes the strongest thing a coach can do isn’t push harder — it’s pause, reflect, and realign.
Reset your mindset. Reconnect with your purpose.
One drive at a time.
